Ten Tors

Up at 6 to drive down to Okehampton Military Camp for the Ten Tors Team Managers ' Briefing.

We sat in an open sided hangar from 9 until 4 learning about the rules, the background, the landowners' perspective on this fantastic annual event, a sort of rite of passage for thousands of teenagers from the South West.

I spoke to a teacher who said that for lots of pupils, when asked what was the most memorable event of their school years, Ten Tors was frequently top.

We are going to run a team this year. Who knows how we might do? They will complete it though and in years to come, will look back and be proud that they achieved it.

The audience for the event was predominantly white, middle aged men wearing different combinations of outdoor gear. A bit more diversity would be nice.

They gave us some maps to help with the training. I love maps. An all consuming love. Doesn't quite matching looking at a bike but close...

I am that middle aged nerd. Eek!
