Grand River Fish Petroglyph - Kevin Sudeith

Rock art has told the stories of people and places for tens of thousands of years. Kevin Sudeith has been making rock art for the past eleven years in communities across North America, creating enduring images that mark the moment in time.

Grand Rapids is his first installation in an urban setting. For ArtPrize, he brought in five boulders of local Michigan field stone, and carved them on site with the images of 20 species of fish found in the section of the Grand River along which they sit.

Sturgeon coexist with salmon. A lake trout swims below the Northern pike. When Art Prize is over, the stones will remain in Grand Rapids.
