Derelict

Tucked away in a paddock and nearly engulfed by trees and wild roses lies this derelict building, not a house but a small railway station. It's passed its use by date and seems to be forgotten but once played an important part in the district. The Moeraki Flag Station is the railway station for Springbank estate, situated on the Rangiora-Oxford line.

In June 1875 the Rangiora-Oxford Railway line was opened. It was twenty-one miles and operated two mixed trains each way, carrying passengers and freight. It took an hour and 40 minutes for the uphill trip from Bennetts to Oxford, or a full three hours for the run from Christchurch.
The need for a railway line to Oxford became necessary as the timber industry grew in the area. The line was permanently closed in April 1959 as the competition from road freight increased.

Thought it was a good one for Derelict Thursday hosted by SarumStroller.

Out and about with my mum walkingS, a little bit of country, some good food and of course our grocery shop - happy times :)
