Descent of the Stockji glacier under Matterhorn

Classic Haute Route Day 11: Leaving the Bertol hiut at 5:30am we climbed the easy snow peak of the Tete Blanche (3724m) then descended by way of the Stockji Glacier to the Schonbiel Hut, directly beneath the Matterhorn.

We were treated to an equally impressive but less well known back side view of the Matterhorn and Dente d'Herens. The classic Matterhorn triangular cloud can be seen above the descending walkers. The Stockji glacier is covered in larger crevasses - the upper of which can be seen. An absolutely stunning day.

Taken using the HDR facility to enhance B&W contrast.
