Flying Free

Today marked 2 years since Sumner's passing. Jon and I left early this morning to catch a sunrise at the beach, but it was cloudy and less than spectacular. The surf was up thanks to hurricane Gonzalo that was churning around in the Atlantic Ocean near and over Bermuda on Friday. The surfers were out completely donned in wet suits from head to toe and the air was a crisp and windy 43F. But these birds reminded me of a quote that Sumner's long time friend posted on FB:

"I have to remind myself that some birds aren't meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too bright. And when they fly away, the part of you that knows it was a sin to lock them up does rejoice. But still, the place you live in is that much more drab and empty that they're gone. I guess I just miss my friend."
