A Walk in the Park

A couple coordinate themselves with the colors of autumn at Tsaritsyno Park today.

Tsaritsyno has an interesting history: the estate was bought by Catherine the Great in 1775. She built a palace there between 1776-85 but ended up not liking the design (rooms too cramped, etc) and ordered the place be torn down. A new project started the following year but that too had not been completed when Catherine died in 1796. Her son and heir, Tsar Paul I, showed no interest in the palace. Consequently, the structure was left unfinished. It then lay largely abandoned for over 200 years until being restored finally in 2005-07.
