"Please. Keep smoking."

This fellow was enjoying a quiet smoke before I bailed him up.
He readily agreed to be photographed, but immediately put down his cigarette.

'Oh no." I said, "Please. Keep smoking."

Of course, I didn't want to say that that's why I'd stopped.  
I'd wanted him and his beret wreathed in smoke.

The stigma attached to smoking these days, means that even the most dedicated smoker doesn't want to be seen doing it.

For the record:
Gough Whitlam died today.  Some years ago I kissed him.
That's for the benefit of the grandchildren, should I have any.
