Grey and sombre

A bit grey and sombre today - the weather wasn't much better either! We went out to explore a newly opened part of the Sheep's Head Way which turned out to be a very pleasant ramble across the mountain, down little tracks and passed this old farm snuggly hidden in the trees. It was empty but there was evidence that it had been done up as the outside was freshy painted. We walked through the field containing all the cattle - Himself bravely going first.

Last night's film Omar was exceptional but very bleak, hence the grey and sombreness I think, it's been with me all day. The story is set in the Occupied West Bank - Omar lives on one side of the Wall, his girlfriend on the other. It's a love story really but one that gets complicated by resistance, oppression, brutality, betrayal and futility. The acting was superb and direction managed to find beauty and sympathy in a bleak situation. The film didn't dwell on the political and made no judgements, just looked at effects of occupation and how individuals deal with it. All the empahsis has been on Gaza recently and the Occupied West Bank and that obscene wall has been forgotten. I had to find out more. A good website here.
