The Bridge

Morning All,

The hardest thing in life to learn is which bridge to cross and which to burn = David Russell

8 Miles west of Edinburgh
8 years to complete
521metres high
28 years it was the longest then 2nd longest Bridge span in the world
1890 opened
200 Trains a day
73 men died in building
38 fell to their deaths
8 men saved from drowning by safety boats
6,5 million rivets used
1st Major construction in Britain built from steel
The first German air attack on Britain in the Second World War took place over the Forth Bridge, six weeks into the war, on 16 October 1939
Network Rail is in the early planning stages to add a visitor centre to the bridge, which would include a viewing platform on top of the North Queensferry side.

"Painting the Forth Bridge" is a colloquial expression for a never-ending task, coined on the erroneous belief that at one time in the history of the bridge repainting was required and commenced immediately upon completion of the previous repaint. Now it wont need a coat of paint for 20 years ;0)

.....and I'll be passing under again tonight on nightshift....never tire of seeing that view ;0)

Have a great day ;0)

TTFN ;0)
