Crested Grebe with blue egg

I am pretty sure this grebe is sitting on a blue egg which you can just see under some rubbish. One of the locals moored an old wooden palette just off shore and the birds started nesting on it within a couple of days. If they nest on the edge of the shore they have to contend with roaming dogs. This bird raised its head feathers at me a couple of times and watched me but did not seem perturbed.
