Claremont mental asylum - Derelict Thursday

This derelict building once housed 1700 "mental patients"! It was built in 1904, the largest psychiatric hospital in Western Australia. It closed in 1972. The original section was still used until 1985, as a psychiatric hospital.
A person close to us has bought the buildings and is in the process of converting them into an aged care facility. 5 star!! I am going to try and get access to the inside - it is amazing! Especially the enormous dining hall.
One can only imagine what went on behind these walls...........
Further info can be found in Wikipedia under "Swanbourne hospital" or "Claremont Hospital for the Insane".
