Lincoln Law Courts

Part of the castle:
no hassle.
But the mob by the door
are no more
tourists than the big
man in a wig
who's a barrister taking a break.
Make no mistake,
if Chummy goes down,
he'll be out of town,
not plungin'
down the castle dungeon
with his only hope
the right length of rope
to make his end slick
and quick.

The city's court was in session while we made a truncated tour of the castle today. The reason for the short tour was because a huge force of workmen are making vast repairs to the castle wall. It should be brilliantly restored by the time the whole castle reopens in April. The completed sections were already looking good.

We were able to climb to the top of one tower and, in this amazing Indian summer, enjoy a good view of surrounding Lincolnshire far into the distance. It was just midday as we reached the top and I gazed towards my birthplace of Brigg. Couldn't see the town, of course, but I know that you don't need to move far from the town on a clear day to catch sight of the cathedral.

This must be one of the warmest Halloweens on record. We're returning to Stamford this evening for a meal out with our daughter and her fiance. And as they're picking us up, we can both drink. Yay! The upside of being oldsters!
