Samhain

I was out tonight with Nanisa, David, Sheila and George. We started with A Night in the Garden at the Botanics - a magical trail of light in the Gardens.

Then we headed into the city centre for the Samhain/Samhuinn festival by the Beltane Fire Society. Celebrated from sunset on 31 October to sunset on 1 November, Samhain is a Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter or the "darker half" of the year.

The Society celebrated it tonight with a procession and a battle between the Summer King and the Winter Prince. Quite poignantly, today has been the warmest Halloween on record, and following the ceremony, the rain started!

I have so many pictures that I wanted to blip, but settled on this one - taken during the procession as it went down Cockburn Street. I really like the focus on the torchbearer's face.

In other news, happy second anniversary Wesley x
