Hoyle's Lore

Liverpool's 11th annual Homotopia festival kicked off this week and this year's programme looks particularly good.

At work we've partnered up with the festival to support a show by performance artist, comedian, singer, actor and painter, David Hoyle. David has experienced periods of mental ill health throughout his life and got through a very difficult period a few years ago by producing a series of striking artworks which are currently being exhibited at the Fallout Factory on Dale Street.

I went along to the opening night private view this evening and had a great chat with David about depression and the role of art and creativity in recovery from mental distress. He also kindly posed for a few pictures!

I'll be back at the gallery on Sunday afternoon to see David in conversation about his life and art and I'm thoroughly looking forward to it. He's a lovely man.
