Birds, mostly

Had a long lie-in, which was a real treat. We went for a walk along the Water of Leith to see what was going on - the little grebe is back, there were some recently moulted goosanders hanging about, the containers sitting on the rubbish train at Powderhall were really mingin', and we saw a couple of herons. On our way back we were startled to see a large cock pheasant fly up out of the undergrowth - goodness knows what he was doing there!

The family swan were hanging about by Junction bridge; there only seem to be three cygnets these days. Their leg rings must have been put on quite recently - they seemed a littl irritated by them. Still, they're coming on well - the white feathers showing beneath the grey-brown gives the impression that they have interior lighting.

Mr H had managed to get some fresh yeast in V & C this morning, so I made pizzas for tea, first time in ages. Mmm.
