The Edge of the Wold

There was a time when I used to stop every morning at Sandside to take a photograph across the Kent estuary to Whitbarrow. But today was the first time in 6 months or more. The heavy clouds are heavier for the vignetting of my wide-angle lens, which alas is specifically designed for the smaller sensor of my old D90.

This isn't very representative of the day in that we spent much of it getting soaked in Ennerdale a long way from here. When we set out it looked like it would be a day of chasing rainbows as we ducked in and out of heavy showers. The rainbows as we drove from Kendal to Windermere were intensely bright. Not long after we arrived in Ennerdale, the shower breaks stopped, the cloud thickened and visibility declined as the showers gave way to persistent rain. Nevertheless it was a good day out of the office, seeing things on the ground that we have spent so much time negotiating over.
