Living in the Khumbu.

So many people are out in the forest at the moment, collecting dried leaves in these huge baskets. The people of Khumbu have only 2 weeks in which to collect their year's supply of leaves used for the dry toilets outside their houses. The status of Sagamartha National Park dictates certain rules which are designed to protect the environment but which make it harder for the Sherpa families when most of the men folk are guiding or portering. The women have a lot to do. It is already well below freezing every night so using these dry toilets in deep winter doesn't bear thinking about.

Large to see the smaller basket inside the big basket which is filled and put on top of the filled bottom one!
