Dotted Line

I was out and about early this morning and was completely surprised to see this head come into view above the fence, it is no other than Giraffe no 48 called Dotted Line. Standing tall at 2.5 metres she's made of fibreglass and was painted by Christchurch interior designer Wendy Tan.

The giraffe sculpture is part of the Christchurch Stands Tall public art project launched in Christchurch and surrounding areas on 3 November 2014. There are 49 adult giraffe sculptures painted by New Zealand, United Kingdom and Australian artists and 50 giraffe calf sculptures which schools have designed and painted. The herd of giraffes form an art trail and can be seen until February next year when the adults will be auction for charity and the giraffe calf sculptures returned to schools for a permanent display.

Dotted Line took me by surprise as I didn't expect our small town just north of Christchurch to be fortunate to have this beautiful sculpture, certainly made me smile. I'll probably blip some more of her, this is just a taste.

Spring was late in rising this morning, cloudy with the sun breaking through mid-morning but most pleasant with a light breeze and plenty of warmth in a sheltered spot. I've walked round the garden several times today, thinking about summer and how some areas won't have any summer colour, I think a trip to the garden centre will be coming up.

It's great having the weekend here - Happy Saturday everyone :)
