He's behind you ......

Drama in the skies this afternoon as a (presumably) escaped pet parrot (Cockatoo?) is harassed by crows and protected by the 'Company' of resident green parrots. Every time the screeching white cockatoo flies to another tree it is closely followed by the calling crows and then the parrots swoop in like a squadron of spitfires, screeching all the way, to make a barrier between the cockatoo and the crows. There are twenty, maybe more, green parrots flying in formation in this seemingly military defensive manoeuvre and the noise is deafening. We watched for a while, feeling helpless, until my neighbour told me that they have seen a white cockatoo here on campus at least twice before in recent years, so we are assuming that it is the same bird and therefore hopeful that it will find his way back home again soon. Poor thing.

(The photo is not black and white - it is the day that was monochromatic.)
