The Edge of the Wold

Trig Pixie

The arrival of global positioning systems rendered Ordnance Survey triangulation points redundant. These are such familiar elements of the high points of our landscape, that local volunteers have adopted them. Earlier in the year I met the man who paints the trig point on Arnside Knott, and didn't admit that at least some of the boot prints on it were mine where I had been climbing it for an aerial shot of Gus.

This trig point sits on top of the Helm outside Kendal, our favoured collie walking spot for lunchtimes. This one isn't just maintained - as the photo shows, it has its own inhabitant - a spectacle wearing pixie. By the way, out of focus in the background, about 10 miles away as the raven flies, is the Kent estuary and Arnside Knott.

And in case anyone is missing Gus who has been absent from blips for a couple of weeks, here he is in sharp focus.

Thank you very much to everyone who commented, starred and favourited yesterday's crow flight.
