Model maker

Visited my grandparents after work tonight. My grandpa was a fantastic model maker until he got ill recently. This is one of the many model boats that he has made. He makes them almost entirely from scratch and some have taken many years to complete. Most would be sailable and he used to take them down and put them on the lake at the marine park. Lately he hasn't intended to take them to the lake so he has spent time adding fine details such as working lights, miniature equipment and characters on the boat. Making things has always been a hobby of his and even in the picture there are a motorbike and robot that he make years ago out of spare metal he had lying around including old keys. He has also carved us lots of toys out of wood including a rocking horse. He is very talented and has been in the local newspaper in the past. About 10 years ago he received a letter from a man in Spain with simply his name and in brackets "the model maker" and the town on the envelope (no street or postcode) Inside a letter explained that a girl had been staying in south shields and returned home to Spain with a fragile gift wrapped in old newspaper. The girl had given the gift to her father and although he spoke no English he saw my grandpas photograph with the models of his ships in the newspaper. He asked his daughter to write my grandpa a letter so she did but she didn't know his address. He couldn't believe that it still reached him even though the town has about 80, 000 residents!
