Sunrise on Latrigg Fell

Second day of the workshop and, as conditions were looking favourable, it was an early morning start for a sunrise shoot on top of Latrigg Fell. As we were climbing the Fell we could already see patches of mist lying in the valleys and it continued to improve as we set up. We were privileged to witness a stunning inversion - mists and clouds lying in the valleys and hugging the mountains below us - and a gorgeous sunrise to boot! Everywhere you looked the views were stunning and the scene was constantly changing. We arrived on top of Latrigg Fell at 7am and didn't leave until 11 - and it was still looking fabulous.

The views are far reaching from here - Skiddaw and Blencarthra to the north, Keswick and the length of Derwentwater, Borrowdale and the high fells of Central Lakeland to the south. Wainwright was moved to describe the views as "a panorama of crowded detail, all of it of great beauty: indeed this scene is one of the gems of the district ... The far horizon is a jumbled upheaval of peaks, with many dear old friends standing up proudly".

Anyone who knows me, knows i'm a night owl - I don't do very early mornings! However, although i've had some stunning photography days out, this has to top them all. You simply can't beat standing on top of a mountain watching the sun rise with the added bonus of an amazing inversion too!! Wow! I'm well and truly converted!

Back down to earth and it was a late cooked breakfast (or brunch!), then off to Tom's secret waterfall, next Aira Force waterfall and finally another climb, this time up Green Hill for fabulous views of Ullswater.

More of this mornings shots can be seen here. I'm just hoping that i've done some justice to the stunning views.
