Back to Blue

After the rain of recent days, it was a relief to have blue skies again - reflected in the waters of the Gironde. You might think it was still summer but the field below is a vineyard and those leaves are now yellow... soon they'll fall.

This bay is where Roman troops used to come for R&R two thousand years ago. There is an important archaeological site being excavated a little way inland, which they think was formerly the Roman port of Noveoregum.

Up on the chalk cliff, you can just make out the 12th century church of St Radegond at Talmont, a place where Eleanor of Aquitaine spent her honeymoon. The area is steeped in history and it would be fun to explore with a metal-detector one of these days.
