Last of the Yellow Jackets

Where do yellow jackets go in the winter? They don't survive---except for the queen who hides and hibernates. This nest has often been so covered with yellow jackets that I couldn't see the actual nest. A few days ago, I saw them massed up at the top of the nest. Today, there are only these few stragglers left. In the spring, the queen will find a new place to build---hopefully where I can watch and take pictures---since they don't go back to old nests.....
