Rickshaw Poverty - Day 12 Indian Holiday

There was a scheduled train journey today from Jaipur back to Delhi, but as this would have meant a late return and no chance of a last group dinner before we get back to Old Blighty, we decided unanimously to travel back by bus.

However as I type, we are caught up in a lengthy road jam of lorries and road works with sand blowing about and people skipping between the traffic.

Against all warnings earlier this morning, we stopped off at a roadside snack bar just near the Amber Fort where we all opted for freshly cooked samosas and pakoras.
It will be apparent fairly soon if any of us have have caught the infamous Delhi Belly. So far His Lordship and I have been lucky, although much judicious use of antibacterial gel and liberal use of hand wipes may have contributed to the luck. However, I think I will not be unhappy if I don't see another curry for the rest of this year at least.

This blip illustrates something of the life of a poor rickshaw driver, who very likely rents his rickshaw from an owner, and guards it, his home and income, with his life, sleeping on it rather than leave it unattended.

Tomorrow we leave India. It won't be until we arrive home that we can put our impressions of this amazing country into any sensible context.
