UAE 43rd National Day

Independence from the United Kingdom in 1971

So it is a national holiday here today (3 days if you work for the government and kind Corp companies). So a few of the office folks got together at a friends new villa (only 2 chairs in the way of furniture) for a BBQ...and a pool party for one, he swears it said pool party on the invite. As none of us have our alcoholic drinks license yet, we only had 1 bottle of Jack Daniels to share...it never lasted than long...neither did the pool party thankfully...but the BBQ was great.

As it started to get dark, we set off in search of the celebrations and it wasn't long before we found them. The Emiratis like to dress their cars up, drive around the streets honking their horns, kids hanging out of the sunroof and local kids all masked / scarfed up and spraying silly string and foam at the passing cars. We also happened on the new Guinness World Record attempt at the longest graffiti mural, 2.8km I think. It looked pretty cool and I got a couple of decent snaps. But I prefer this picture...

Happy National Day to my new Emirati friends. One day my Scottish friends will hopefully be able to celebrate the same.
