Day 12 - Memphis, TN to Little Rock, AR

Time to leave Memphis after a wonderful few days. Walked to the nearby parking garage, pressed the button on the key-fob and..... nothing, nada, zilch. Dead as a dodo. Tom and Jerry from the guest-house to the rescue (friends for life) - Jerry pulled up near the Ford Escape to jump start it, and after a bit of dismantlement as per the instruction manual we exposed the innards and managed to get it going. After ringing the car hire firm we decided to risk continuing with the car rather than swap it at the nearby branch (even though it doesn't want to head to LA, secretly...). Said our goodbyes to Tom et al and headed out of Tennessee into Arkansas.

First stop the childhood home of Johnny Cash in Dyess. We read about it in the Observer months ago and said we'd visit. Beautifully presented exhibit in the restored town hall followed by a drive to the restored home in the middle of nowhere. Worth it.

Car driving (and restarting) ok, we headed across Arkansas to Little Rock, passing cotton fields and small farming towns on the way. The Augustines, Danny And The Champs, Elvis et al forming the soundtrack. Rolled into Little Rock around 4pm and had just enough time to tour the Bill Clinton Presidential Library. Very impressive, if a little one-sided - Monica's dress not on display....

Eventually arrived at our (very cosy) B&B, met Susan the owner, and drove to a nearby supermarket for pizzas and wine before settling in front of Christmas Vacation on the TV.
