Swimming Against The Tide

The House

This evening we went to a gig in the Jericho Tavern in Oxford where Inlight, who were headlining, played a superb set.

Beforehand I spent a little time in town, browsing shops, having coffee etc. I also wandered into College and took this picture of the place that those of us who grew up there know affectionately as "The House".

For the uninitiated, "The House" comes from the Latin, Aedes Christi, for Christ Church.

This picture is a view across Tom Quad, showing Mercury in the middle (you can be sent down if you end up in the water!), the entrance to and spire of the Cathedral, and Hall (which always served up, erm, delicacies at 6.30 and 7.20 each evening - if you went to 7.20 Hall though you HAD to wear your gown!).

Another significance of this picture is that it shows the room in which the Wonderspouse and I first met, at a freshers' tea party, "ahem" years ago!

Oh, and don't even THINK about walking on the grass unless it is "after dinner in the Trinity Term and the condition of the turf shall be deemed suitable"!
