Sing-along Mary Poppins

Today we got all dolled up as the Banks family - George, Winifred, Jane, and Michael - and went with some friends to a sing-along version of the movie Mary Poppins at a downtown theater.

This theater does one sing-along family-friendly movie each spring, and it is a lot of fun. Last spring we went to The Sound of Music sing-along with the same friends. Each participant gets a goody bag filled with trinkets to use at different points during the show - for example, today we had poppers to use when the admiral sets off his cannon, kazoos to play when the penguins enter during the "It's a Jolly Holiday With Mary!" sequence, and so forth. We were also instructed to coo, "Awwwwww," every time Jane and Michael appeared on screen, yell "Well done, Sister Suffragette!" every time we saw Mrs. Banks, etc. It was loud and crazy and interactive and a lot of fun - though E did get wiggly near the end of the 3+ hours.

Prior to the show, all the kids in costume were invited up on stage to converse with our hostess, the "real" Mary Poppins, and receive a candy prize. A was Jane and E was Michael - next to them, friend M was a chimney sweep and C was also Jane.
