Baking bread

Last night and today we went on a breadmaking course, run by Tom Baker (yes), from whom we've been buying sourdough bread weekly. He bakes in a woodfired oven from his home in Cotteridge, and runs sourdough courses. As I already know how to bake bread, I wasn't expecting to get much out of it, but actually it was really useful and interesting, and I learned tons. Just goes to show, there is always something to learn and in this case, quite a lot as it turned out - that'll teach me!

This is our brunch moment though - having baked sourdough muffins in the wood oven, these are the eggs (from his own hens) to go inside them.

Totally recommended - anyone who is interested can find details at loafonline.co.uk. You don't have to be local - two of the other participants were from Bolton and Cambridge. Apparently there aren't many sourdough courses in the UK, and others are much more expensive.

My whole photoset of the day is here.
