Wall
The garden wall, snaking west towards the atlantic. Built in 1861 by a whole team of labourers brought up from Yorkshire. It goes all the way round our four acres, and is in places 12 feet high. They dug the stone out of the slow hill behind the house, which is now a green mini quarry, a grassed and shrubbed-over vast hole in the field. Bright white island sunshine today. Feels like autumn's coming.
