Monday 3 May 2010: THE REMAINS OF THE DAY

Today the village (plastic - I don't want anyone envisaging a horde of irate villagers driving real ducks through the village's beck) duck race took place in the village's beck.

Several of my friends had said that they would be attending and that they would call in for a cuppa. As a precaution I made a batch of chocolate and coconut (lactose free - one of my friends is lactose intolerant) muffins.

Twelve muffins went into the over but, after the influx of friends, family plus four members of the family whose parents live across the road these two were the only ones remaining.

My duck did not win - in fact he 'fell' at the first hurdle (a stepping stone) but with the excited shrieks of the village's children anyone would have thought it was The Grand National!
