The Thrills Have Gone

Alabama 3, Academy, Glasgow. The Spirit and Larry Love launched into a mid concert saturday night drinking song, fantastic playing from The Spirit, especially an extended 'drunken piano' section. The cowboy hats and rhinestones may have been replaced by combat fatigues but the songs remain the same, as it were. There was a new female vocalist, looking like a time travelling stick insect renegade from Funkadelic, but boy could she belt it out!

There was evidence that perhaps some of the Alabama 3 contingent may be Scottish, and that the Spirit is called Armando (though judging by the keyboard maybe it's Orlando). I'm sure I heard Rev. D. Wayne Love slip out of the Southern Drawl into pure Glaswegian at the end to say thanks and there were a lot of people who looked like they knew him.

For the rest of the day we took in some of the places we've wanted to visit, dinner at Nanushka's, drinks at Nice 'n' Sleazy & Slumdog (we have to go back for food at some point), MacSorley's Music Bar (ditto the food as they were so busy we couldn't get the full A La Carte, only pub grub). We also managed The Monkey Bar, Rufus T. somethings rock bar (a very cool picture of Lion-o rocking out with a flying V on the widow) and Molly Malone's.
