The Life of Bri

I was going to post a shot of a TV this evening, but it was all just too depressing - so here's a cheery shot of Skye instead.

I was thinking back to the day Blair walked into Downing Street, and although he disappointed many people afterwards, the feelings of hope and optimism when he first arrived were fantastic.

To feel a sense of dread when you see your new Prime Minister arrive is not good for the soul.

To be fair to the Lib-Dems, I think they have been put in an impossible position. A pact with Labour would have been politically disastrous - it wouldn't have had the numbers to govern effectively, and would be brought down within 6 months by a rabid press (and Nick Robinson). A pact with the Conservatives may well be disastrous for the rest of us...

But in with the Conservatives, can they at least temper the madness of the rightwing (the inheritance tax change and tax thresholds are a start at least), while disposing of some of Labour's more authoritarian ideas (e.g. ID cards?). Better to be inside the tent, micturating out?

I hope so. But that's just because I'm a hopeless optimist.

Ask me again in 6 months.
