Sunday 16 May 2010: Afternoon kayaking on Siltcoos River
This afternoon hubby and I took off for an afternoon kayak trip on the Siltcoos River Trail. This is a three mile slow moving river between Siltcoos River and the Pacific Ocean. Our entire trip to the Siltcoos Lake and back, was five miles.
It was such a beautiful day and the water was very smooth. However, portions of the river were laden with large fallen trees in and on top of the water. We had to maneuver very careful, especially through some more shallow parts of the river. We spooked several Blue Herons, other birds, and a beaver.
I did freak out a bit when I heard a dam up ahead. My husband knew about it because he found a video on YouTube from a guy that traveled that river. My husband assured me that it was pretty tame. We had to climb up over the dam and drag our kayaks over to the other side. I was sure glad we did that because the other side was much deeper and really gorgeous. I feel in love with houses on along the river that had boat houses. A truly beautiful place to live.
Upon the final stretch the sun quickly left and it was back to gray skies along the Oregon Coast.
We had a wonderful day.
Looks best in large.
Here is a quick video my husband put together. We actually have more video as both him and I took footage. There is no time to put it all together tonight, so here is a quick one he did. It's kind of cheesy - hah!
Thanks for stopping by.
