The Hendersons of Glenfinnan

Tonight was a really special night; Gairloch High hosted a concert as part of the Blas Festival. It was a concert called 'Clan', the Gaelic word for children.

Two families played their socks off tonight - the MacNeils of Cape Breton, and the Hendersons of Glenfinnan.

For Harry Potter fans, much of the films was filmed around Glenfinnan.

The Hendersons are pretty much a legend in Scotland - 7 young folks from the same family, all multi-instrumentalists, and world class standard to boot. Or, as I said tonight, just a bunch of show offs, really. Four of them appeared tonight at the school, and I was really pleased that there was a good turnout for the show. As I was organising it, I was worried that no-one would come.

Ewan plays fiddle, pipes, whistle & sings (oh, and is studying aeronautical engineering), Allan is a member of Blazin Fiddles, and also plays pipes and keyboard and sings, Megan is a the Academy of Music in Glasgow, and plays fiddle, accordion and is a beautiful Gaelic singer, while Ingrid plays clarsach, keyboard and also sings. And Allan could also be a stand-up comic if he put his mind to it.

They took my breath away tonight - such talent, and really great folk as well.
