Tuesday 25 May 2010: Fire mountains
The amazing sight of the 'fire mountains' of Lanzarote - the volcanic detritus left from the last eruptions over 300 years ago. It really is spectacular and although the lava fields and sawn off craters take up only about a quarter of the island, you can't forget, wherever you are, the origins of this strange place.
"El estar inmerso y en contacto directo con los magmas calcinados de Timafaya produce una inquietud de absoluta libertad, y se siente una extrana sensacion de claro presentimiento sobre el tiempo y el espacio."
"To drink in and be in direct contact with the calcinated magmas of Timanfaya fires restlessness for complete freedom; a strange feeling of clairvoyance into time and space takes over."
