Sunday 30 May 2010: Not all bees are equal...
Having been fairly house bound of late, on some crutches, I was able to get out and check on the 16 hives I help tend with a local beekeeper. It is such a joy to watch the busy 'flight paths' in and out of each hive.
The last 6-7 weeks have been a glorious start to the year, with loads of Pussy Willow, Oilseed Rape, Horse Chestnut and Holly to get them started this year. The hives have also done particularly well being surrounded by some of the best Cherry blossom we've had in this country for nearly 30 years, and all those recently made frames have now gone to good use.
Though clearly some colonies are busier than others, as this photo shows, drawing through their new frames quicker than others.
