Monday 31 May 2010: British Asparagus Season!
Went to the Fleece Inn today for the start of the British asparagus season. We've been to this before, but last time there was a howling gale and slanting rain, and a lot of mud. On the plus side there was hardly anyone there so we could eat asparagus till it came out of our ears.
This year's festival was overcast, so slightly better. It's a very fun little festival centred around the very ancient Inn, in a lovely little Cotswaldian village, and is replete with farmers' market (selling a LOT of asparagus), fire eaters, story tellers, morris dancers, steam engines and inexplicably (but much appreciated) old Triumph motors.
The morris hats were particularly pretty this year, and here is one for your delectation.
