Wednesday 12 September 2007: The Old Doocot
Hidden in the woods round the back of the Priory is an old Doocot.
It would once have been a beautiful sandstone building, and it is still in pretty good shape. The roof has holes and there are a few cracks in the stonework, but it looks reasonably sound.
The whole second storey has stone nesting boxes built in to the walls, with the little arched exit holes on the front wall.
As my dad said - they must have been well off if they built this just for their pigeons.
Anyone fancy a wee renovation project?
