Looks Good To Me

Not a Real Windmill

My friend and ex-colleague, Mr. Mole, came up from Seattle today to visit a model train store just across the Canadian border, and to play golf at the Lake Padden course near our house. Although I'm not a model train enthusiast, I thought it would be interesting to go see the model trains with him. The store is on a farm out in a rural area, and does most of its business through the Internet, so it doesn't have much of its huge inventory on display, and I was disappointed that there was no operating layout. I was shocked by the prices of model train stuff -- it made photography look like an inexpensive hobby.

We stopped for lunch at the Dutch Mothers restaurant in Lynden on the way home. Lynden had a large influx of Dutch settlers in the early 1900's, and is very proud of its Dutch heritage. There are at least two windmill replicas in town and many businesses have Dutch-style facades. The "windmill" in the blip is the Dutch Village Inn Hotel.
