Wednesday 9 June 2010: Lifeboat
Today I had skipper duty on our lifeboat. It is almost mid-summer, so not too much rough weather action today. Another duty of our lifeboat is ambulance duty. We are living on an island and only in special cases the lifeboat is called in for ambulance duties. Normally the fast ferry performs these tasks, but if the ferry is en route to or from Harlingen and there is no need to call in a helicopter, the lifeboat is used. It takes us 35-40 minutes to deliver a patient from our island to the next ambulance on-shore. I can take a picture of our lifeboat of course, but these pictures will be rather static right now. Better to take a painting from my youngest son from years ago. He painted our lifeboat, and his father on board, in action and returning from a heavy weather mission. You can still see the lifeboat riding high on a wave with the quay and quiet water pretty close by. I love this painting. It is hanging in our bedroom and i look at it every day with never ending pleasure.
