Sunday 13 June 2010: Fuel Treatment Plant
On view the fuel plant. This consist of:
2x Heavy Fuel Oil Separators (HFO)
1 x Lubricrating Oil Separator (LO)
1 x Marine Diesel Oil Separator (MDO), not on view,
1 x Viscosity Regulator, not on view.
For the ones with a nautical or non-technical background (like me), the separators are removing water out of the fuel and lub oil. Depending on the gravity disc installed also solid particels will be removed before the fuel/lub oil is going to the different kind of engines.
To enhance the separation the fuel/lub oil is heated by means of thermal oil. These lines are insulated because of high temperature (95 Celsius).
The Chief Engineer will be pleased to answer any further questions.
