Saturday 22 September 2007: Rebus country
We went for a ridiculously long walk around town today - Leith to Broughton Street, then the St. James Centre, along George Street, to the West End (new Jessops 'World Camera Centre' visited, of course), down through the New Town to Stockbridge (pizza for lunch, yum), then back to Leith. 15 miles, I reckon. Layla reckoned 1.5.
On the West End to Stockbridge leg, we walked round Moray Place. I know it well because I had a paper round there when I was a lad and it later acted as a much-used short cut between my old flat and a friend's, but I haven't been anywhere near it for a good few years.
It never really struck me before what a distinctly different experience it must be living there - you could still lead a proper Georgian existence (albeit with a few Range Rovers and Volvo estates marring your view of the residents' private gardens).
Maybe, when I'm rich, I'll buy a wee pad there and have a brass plaque of my own engraved. But what to write on it...?
