Gas!

Just a quiet night...
We stopped unit EC 20 because it was not needed anymore...
So the maintenance department can do some jobs which can only be done at standstill.

Like a leaking steamflange in the central heating system.
Heating system?
Now?
In the middle of a heatwave?
Yes...
The gas has to be heated otherwise it's temperature drops too much because of the expansion from high pressure to low pressure.
When we do not heat the gas it will take just a little while before there is ice on the gaspipes.
So now we have the time to stop the central heating.

This is a view at the (yellow) gaspipes which all together are designed to transport over 160000 cubic meters of natural gas per hour.
That was before 1988, in that year the unit, was converted into a combined cycle unit with a gasturbine to improve efficiency.
Now the maximum flow is 120000 cubic meters per hour. The rest is for the gasturbine and the total output has gone from appr. 611 up to 698 MegaWatt.

The isolated pipes above are the main feedwaterpipes.
