Sunday 25 July 2010: Baby Hunter

149/365: Poppy - kitten on the outside... hunter on the inside...

Took a load of photos today - but not as many as I wanted when my battery died while we were out an' about. Grrr! Anyway, this is of our little Poppy. Almost 11 weeks and a brave, independent, smart little soul. She's so adventurous. Wants to be out stalking, hunting, playing... is currently eating my daughter's knitting and now killing phantom things on the sofa. She's gorgeous!

Am now collapsed in our sitting room for the first time today. My feet are killing me, but it's been a really good day. This morning, Mum, me and the children went to Wollaton Hall in Nottingham to see the 'Steaming Sunday' event at the Industrial Museum there. It sounds really dull - but in its oily, steamy, noisy, hissy way it is utterly fabulous. I absolutely love going there and the children think it's fab too. From a room full of ancient radios playing music from the 1930s whilst a fire flickers in the background, to a beam engine occupying four floors - massive yet gracefully gliding up and down... a set of bakelite telephones which we had to teach the children how to use (made me feel ancient) and the amazing volunteer engineers who spill over with their warm, good humoured enthusiasm for keeping those wondeful machines going. Love it. But the council are threatening to close it. An unbelievable loss to our heritage and culture. Really, really hope they find a way to continue their work.

Other stuff? Well... family time really. Went shopping with my mum for groceries for this evening's roast dinner - twice. First time and the whole shop was evacuated when an alarm went off so we had to abandon that attempt. Second time against the clock as we rushed to get our shopping done before Sunday opening hours closed the store early. Then... dinner prep, doing the washing, playing the 'where's Poppy got to this time' game and generally... family time.

I love Sundays. Am dead good at them, oh yes I am. :o)
