Thursday 12 August 2010: Purple Gallinule

I've blipped these birds before, here, and there, but I don't see them as often as a lot of the others- and they always challenge you to catch them out in the open. This one isn't quite as colorful as they can be, I think the colors are more brilliant when they're breeding. There was a youngster foraging in the same area, full grown but mostly still brown, with some blue in the wings and a dark bluish patch on the forehead (and the same big yellow feet), but I couldn't get them both in the same shot, and the adult was more impressive
