Santo Domingo was the first centre of Spanish Power in the Americas with Columbus the first governor and his son the third It contains a staggering set of firsts in the Americas - the first cathedral, university, monastery and nunnery. But here is a picture of the lovingly created governor's court in its 18th century form, in the Casas Reales built as the administrative centre of the West Indies between 1503 and 1520.
