Paquita

This is a tough blip for Friday. A funeral in the village is a big affair and like the film Volver the body is laid out in the house, open casket, for visits and prayers. There are a stack of village folding chairs which you collect from the Ayuntamiento if the gathering is going to test your own substantial straight backed chair collection.

Paquita was important in the village and in the church. I can see her house at the top of the road from mine, which is why I could take the picture without being seen. At the stroke of six o'clock in the evening the bell tolls sadly and the coffin is carried to the church.

This photograph is about transformation but in particular it is about those shadows to the left; this is in praise of shadows.
