Sunday 29 August 2010: Painted Turtle Sunbathing
My wife and I took a walk to the McKenzie Marsh - a wetland at the north end of our town, Aurora. We saw this painted turtle crawl up onto the log for a little sunbath. We also saw a snapping turtle, several mallards, three or 4 blue herons, three cormorants, a female redwing blackbird, and a trumpeter swan (it was banded but we could not make out the number; these swans are wild regulars in and around Aurora and some are bred or rehabbed near my home). Lovely summer day with interesting things to see. Sunny and about 29C with a light breeze. Photo is straight from the camera. I should have cropped it a bit. The grey at bottom is the bridge concrete.
